Yeah? Well, I’m Not a Huge Fan of Gunkapo Quislings.

“I’m not a huge fan of it, personally,” Stucker said of the move. “As a gun store owner, it puts a little bit more liability on us.” [More]

What did Samuel Adams say…?

Is this guy really that stupid, first for talking to the media like they’re honest brokers, and then for throwing his customers under the bus? I want to be careful here because it would have been easy to make assumptions about another gun guy until Herschel took the time to put things in context.

I’ll put out some feelers to our friends at Grassroots North Carolina and see if they can shed any light. Because without finding mitigating circumstances, my kneejerk reaction is to urge gun owners to find somewhere else to go and let this business die.

  1. A dealer always has a choice of who they sell to, without making up any excuses. I don’t know this dealer, but I do work with a number of FFLs that would not worry for a second about turning away a questionable customer.

This dealer seems inexperienced and unfamiliar with both their responsibilities as a FFL and the law in North Carolina. That’s a bad combination, and especially bad when you put yourself in front of the television cameras.

The interview completely glossed over the very real exposure of (up to) 5 year old paper permits which can be in the hands of people that have become prohibited. In the only audit (performed 9 years ago) 5,255 were found in the hands of felons and other prohibited people. The NICS check at time of purchase solves this – especially if you have good Internet connections and phone lines. As to slow responses – dealers tell me that sales for the past days since repeal have been 3 times normal… Guess they are not going to this store for some reason?

The sheriffs in 100 counties across the state really do not have any secret special double probation knowledge about citizens that they lawfully withheld from NICS, they simply collected their fee and ran had the county clerk run a NICS check for them. With the go response they printed the permit and everyone was happy.

Finally, the program that is so highly valued by Leftists across the state was never effectively enforced. In spite of thousands of felons apprehended with illegal firearms, only 49 were charged in the past 5 years with the crime of acquiring handguns without a permit, and only 4 were convicted.

On this one, I would say the person interviewed probably does not know what he’s talking about.

On the positive side, another Jim Crow law is in the dust bin of history. Now on to get rid of our state’s “Literacy Test” for voting… Yeah… it’s in the constitution.
