A Republican won a deep-blue Northern Virginia county-level seat in a major upset Tuesday after revelations that her Democratic opponent made racist social media posts more than 10 years ago. [More]
I love his excuse that “back in those days,” you know, the deep dark 2015’s, it somehow wasn’t verboten.
I remember 20 years before that “society” discrediting Mark Fuhrman for the same offense. And at least every place I’ve ever lived, and I’ve been sentient since the 50’s, outside of literature reflecting an earlier period, it’s a word I never heard my parents use even once in conversation, nor anyone within our circles of friendship and acquaintance.
Rush Limbaugh once opined that it was apparently impossible for the Left to be happy. Or maybe more than once.
in the days of my youth some folks were called “Negro.” Before it was renamed “Overtown”, part of Miami was called the “Central Negro District.” Now, “Negro” is actually the Spanish word for Black. Y’all knew that, right? But for some of those folks, being called Black in Spanish made them unhappy. They wanted to be called “Colored People.” Apparently that didn’t make them happy either so they wanted to be called “African Americans.” Still not happy, they changed their minds and wanted to be called “Blacks.” But apparently, still not happy, they have started calling themselves “People of Color.”
Seventy years of progress to get from “Colored People” to “People of Color.”
