You read about families that have had members who were no prizes themselves killed by “gun violence”… while it’s statistically insignificantly rare for the rest of us who were “cultured“… this is how that happens.

I’m remembering a hearing before a congressional sub committee on what is now called SNAP but will be forever known as “food stamps.” A 300 pound African American woman was in the witness chair and had just blurted out the line that will forever be etched in my brain.
“You can’t be cuttin’ our food stamps! We practically be starvin’ now!
I believe the current expression would be that the optics were not in her favor.
So what did she have in common with the lady with five kids she can’t support?
Two things. Poor impulse control and a tendency to make bad choices.
And those, Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, and all of you God’s creatures in between, are the fundamental problems that both describe and bedevil leftists around the world, including in America, and most importantly, in our political class.
