Truth Will Out

I guess the stats in the cities—this is kind of a funny thing, and I’m glad somebody brought this up—because the pro-gun side in this country is always trying to cut and dissect the demographics down. They’re like, okay, so there was a higher percentage in this city, or among this type of person, or among this demographic. [More]

We’re not “trying” to do anything but contextualize the propaganda with reality. It just happens to be the case, and since Tim brought up essentially gun-free countries like Japan, perhaps he could explain the comparable statistically insignificant “gun crime” rates and numbers by, say, millions of NRA, GOA, and SAF members, the most heavily armed and peaceable civilan population on the planet.

  1. They like to compare America’s gun crime rates, obviously caused by our lax laws and easy access to guns, to those of Japan where pretty much the opposite is true.

Then they get all pissy when you point out that Japanese Americans, awash in America’s saturation level gun culture, have even lower gun crime numbers than their cousins in tightly restricted Japan.

A statistician without a political axe to grind would conclude that the controlling variable is not the restrictive laws, or the easy access to guns. Rather they would say it must be something inherent in Japanese culture.

Do you think we should ask Chicago’s mayor what he thinks?

Apparently there ain’t a whole lot of Japanese on Chicago’s South Side.
