A First-Time Gun Owner

The gun, which is legal to own in California, will be the first firearm registered in Newsom’s name, his spokesperson Izzy Gardon confirmed. [More]

Maybe something good emerged from Shawn Ryan’s suckfest after all.

See, years ago, I became suspicious when the notoriously phony Newsom made a claim to convince union Fudds he was one of them:

“I’m a hunter,” Newsom told the union crowd when a man in the audience grumbled about his support for gun control. Newsom, who in his younger days shot lizards with a rifle on visits to his father’s place in the Sierra foothills, said he has hunted ducks and enjoys skeet shooting, but nonetheless supports background checks for gun owners. The hunting might surprise some of Newsom’s fans on Twitter, where he skewers the National Rifle Assn…

So, per the email embedded in that link, I wrote to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife under the Public Records Act, asking for copies of all hunting license//tags issued to him.

They shined me on, told me”the law” said they didn’t have to. Which is fine, I wouldn’t want my records handed out so I can’t grouse about that. But still, it opens up a big question for Gavin and Izzy:

Whose gun did he use?

One more question, actually:

While this specific loan exemption allows you to give the firearm directly to a licensed hunter, it is crucial to ensure they are not prohibited from possessing firearms. If you are not an individual who can loan a firearm under an exemption (like a spouse, parent, child, etc.), and the loan is not for hunting, the transfer must go through a licensed firearm dealer for a background check.

Enquiring minds want to know…

“But that gun control wasn’t for us. It was for those other people!” — overheard in a gun shop during one of the LA riots.

  2. The true test, will be for Newsom to take “his” shotgun, and Walz to take “his” shotgun, and go shoot clays… Or rather at least see who can load their shotgun…

  3. “Newsom defended California’s gun laws, arguing that they have earned the state one of the country’s lowest rates of gun-related deaths (opens in new tab). In contrast, Republican-run states, including Tennessee, typically have the highest rates.”

Only if you factor in suicides, which are 50-65% of gun deaths, depending on pre- or post-COVID. If you count only murders and accidents, they’re smack in the middle of all states.

All Newsom’s statistics show is that they’ve made guns significantly harder to get for law-abiding citizens who just want to ring their own curtains.
