Dead in the Water

That problem I talked about in my blog post a few entries down turned into my computer completely crapping out on me. I’m entering this from my Android phone but I can’t work like this. I bought a new computer and it will be a couple days before the techs have it ready for me. Please hold off on everything until I return.

  1. I urge you to also purchase a second pc to be prepared for the next time. Also the importance of keeping good data backups. Kind of like having a fire extinguisher or …

  2. If a used computer would suit your needs, check out the govdeals.com online auction site. On the top of their homepage click on ‘searches’ then select ‘classic search’. On classic search click on the down arrow at country and select United States, click on the down arrow at state/province and select the state you want to search in, click on the down arrow at category and select what you are looking for, then click the search button at the bottom. As you go through the choices that come up select any that interest you, enter the maximum you are willing to spend on it. It will raise the bid amount until it has passed the 2nd highest bidder and stop. If that exceeds your bid they will ask if you want to increase it but I never do.

  3. I’ve had pretty good luck buying corporate lease turn-backs on eBay. Too “old” and “slow” for a gaming rig but that’s not what you’re looking for anyway. Just look for auctions where the seller is offering lots of nearly identical machines.

Item number 234547820539 is an example of one like I use every day but there are tons of them being liquidated all the time. Just make sure you get one that has been refurbished & has all the parts and an installed OS. Lots of corporate types remove and/or wipe the hdd/ssd before recycling a used desktop.
