They never seem to want to explain why those “crime guns” wander all the way up one or more of their supposed “iron pipelines” to cause trouble. Why don’t they just stay home and shoot the place up?
Because the problem isn’t the guns. The problem is the people using the guns to commit crimes, and the people transporting guns across state lines to feed that demand. But the politicians count those people, and their families and associates as “constituents.” And it costs time and money to get them to control their behavior. It’s much cheaper and easier to hassle the law abiding, even if that has no effect on the actual problem.
But don’t take my word for it. Ask Rev. Al Sharpton why he doesn’t spend any time praying with the Brothas on Chicago’s South Side.
You set up the exact economic conditions required to encourage arbitrage (a black market), then you are shocked — simply shocked — when arbitrage flourishes.
