  1. Well managed organizations tend to not follow the sunk-cost fallacy. If a location in any area is not sufficiently profitable and it is determined that they will not be sufficiently profitable if reasonable measures are taken, then the location is closed and resources may be shifted to other locations that will be sufficiently profitable. Sometimes paying the lease, utility costs and insurance on a empty location incurs less loss than continuing operations at a location. Is crime a factor in this decision? Yes. Is race? Not necessarily.

  2. An all too predictable result of the “snitches get stitches” mantra.

Those who turn a blind eye to the activities of law breakers in their midst bear some of the responsibility for the effects of the crimes that those law breakers commit. Like ripples in a pond, the side effects of crime, violent and otherwise, spread out through the fabric of a community in ways sometimes hard to measure.

Keep in mind that those local businesses were not just sources for groceries, prescriptions, and other necessities of daily life. They were also employment near to home for local folks.

    Good luck riding that bus!
