A few takeaways from a visit to EPCOT when my kids were little will apparently stick with me till the end.
A waiter in the Italian pavilion who visibly bristled up when asked if they served Fettuccini Alfredo. His response was “Sir! This is Alfredo’s!”
A waiter in the German pavilion who announced to all within hearing that I was not permitted to eat my main course until he returned with the necessary mustard. “It ist not permitted to eat ze weis wurst wizzout za mustard!” I’ll always remember the mustard nazi.
But the most striking was at the Chinese pavilion. Manikin after manikin of the native dress of Chinese ethnic groups other than the dominant Han including maps of where they formerly lived and the steps the Han were taking to preserve what was left of them after centuries of being stomped into oblivion by the Han. Not much about the Mongols, however. I guess its cool to memorialize the people you stomped but not the ones who stomped you.
