‘Looters Meeting Shooters’ Could Spread Hurricane Milton’s Destruction

Florida’s “stand your ground” provisions won’t give them a pass from prosecution if there’s a question of legality, or if a Democrat DA decides there’s ginned up anger they can exploit. [More]

But when it’s all said and done, “I’d rather be judged by 12 than carried by six” applies.

  1. “Either way, they could lose everything they own. On top of that, even if criminal charges don’t stick, civil lawsuits by surviving rioters, or by family members of those who didn’t, can wipe out the rest of a defender’s property, especially if jurors are sympathetic to the pillagers and hostile to those they deem “privileged.””

David; Besides criminal immunity, Florida law also provides for civil immunity if the use of force is found to have been reasonable in accordance with self defense law

    1. Yes, but as I understand it, those instances are subject to individual scrutiny. Case in point:

A Civil Suit Could Make Zimmerman Pay — or Could Backfire
In the end, “Stand your ground” played a small role in George Zimmerman’s acquittal, but it could pose a big risk to Trayvon Martin’s family if they pursue a civil trial

  2. There is no doubt that Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” and “Castle Doctrine” laws have issues. But Florida with those laws is a better place to live than Florida was without them. And its a way better place to live than places which still operate under “Duty to Retreat” doctrines.

  3. There truly are time when Shoot, Shovel and Shut Up are your best choices. Reminds me….I still need to acquire a backhoe attachment for my tractor. Never know when you may need one.
