    It is an old tradition for firing squads to equip one of the guns with a blank (a “conscience round”) so that any executioner with regrets can console himself that he may have been the shooter of the blank. Perhaps South Carolina follows it.

    1. Good of you to remind us of conscience rounds. However, this story on SC’s execution of Brad Sigmon said:

      Fifteen feet (4.6 meters) away will be three state Corrections Department volunteers with rifles. All three will have live ammunition.
