Old joke among IT folks:
A CFO goes to his CFO and asks him “How much is 2 + 2?”
The CFO gets all annoyed and says “2 + 2 is 4.”
The CEO says, “Are you sure about that?”
The CFO says, “Of course I’m sure. 2 + 2 is 4. It has always been 4. It will always be 4! Now what is this 2 + 2 foolishness about?”
The CEO says “I was just curious. No big deal. Thanks for setting things straight for me.”
The CEO goes down the hall to find his CIO and asks him the same question, “How much is 2 + 2?”
The CIO gets a thoughtful look and suggests that they discuss the question further in his office.
Once settled in the CIO’s office with the door closed the CIO asks, “So, 2 + 2, how much do you want it to be?”
Computers have been turning 2 + 2 into something other than 4 since computers have existed, usually by accident. But there’s a whole community that makes them do so on purpose often with malicious intent. Those are the “Black Hats.” There’s another community that studies how the “Black Hats” operate and try to stay one step ahead of them. Those are the “White Hats.” Some do it for money. Some do it for fun. Some do it for bragging rights and/or the respect of their peers, but they do it. They actually meet on an annual basis on more or less neutral territory to challenge each other and swap notes at a convention known as DEFCON.

So, long story short, if you’re doubting that META might tinker with things in order to get their girl elected, you’re just not paying attention.
