a few years backPortland Oregon’s much touted MAX (light rail( had a serious violent crime issue both on the trains as they moved, and at stops where would be riders congregatedwaiting, or were deboarding the trains. Firearks had been banned on the system since the beginning. It got sonbad ridership was falling off and threatening the continuation of the system. So the Mighty Men oMAX held a meeting t discuss strategy. I was amazed but someone floated the proposition that f riders who re already carrying their own personal defensive weapons were allowed to do so in the trains, crime would fall radically. After some discussion over some period of time, they decided to try it. SO the press news etc, annonced that riders n MAX are now free to carry about with them upon their persons the personal defensive weapons they carry other places. It took a few days, but after a few armed citizens ended robberies and muggings in the trains and/or the pedestrian areas near the stations, crime dropped like an elevator with a broken lift cable. Problem solved at no cost to the taxpayers. Word spread quickly in the “underworld” and such violent incidents all but ceased as relatd to the MAX system.
i am almost certain that was the most recent spasm of true wisdom exhibited by any government agency in the Portland area. This was about ten or so years ago.
