  1. Remember when Spiro Agnew started using the phrase “silent majority”? He failed to check the origin of the phrase in classical Greek theater where the term referred to the dead.

    Anyway, they need to read up on what their guy, FDR did to the gold standard in the 1930’s.

    Since FDR’s great devaluation of the dollar, we’ve blown through the “new” gold standard, the silver standard (no actual silver in coins since 1964), the copper standard (no copper in pennies since 1982), and have been having trouble with the zinc standard (the zinc in a penny is now worth more than $0.01). Not to worry, the mint, acknowledging that the damn things are nearly worthless, wants to stop making them.
