  1. Immigration, like a lot of things, can be good or not so much.

    Mass immigration, legal or illegal, is almost always bad. If the immigrants are separated into small groups, they are more or less forced, by the forces of that often mentioned “melting pot” to move away from their old ways and to become Americans.

    But if they are allowed to group with like immigrants and focus inward on their shared folkways and language, instead of outward to those of their adopted country, assimilation just doesn’t happen to the extent needed. Hundreds of years after their respective diaspora, there are still ethnic enclaves in all of our major cities. Ask anyone who went to public school in New York and they will tell you that “The Gangs of New York” is not just the name of a popular movie. It was the reality of their walk to school if they were caught by the wrong people while trying to transit the wrong block.
