Historically, men as young as sixteen fought in our war for independence from Britain, on both sides. In fact I came accross a record of a fifteen year old who was on the list of soldiers known to have gone out on General Gage’s little expeditioin to disarm the Colonials at Lexington and Concord, 19 April 1775. The record shows he was wounded at Concord, at the North Bridge kerfuffle.
Further, men (and now women) of this age range are subject to being conscripted into our military , bearing arms far more lethal than anything you and I can buy/own/possess/use today.
Such decisions s to when a youth was mature and responsible enough to bear arms were left to their parents. The state had no business intervening in usch things.
I know children as yount as ten who own and use their own firearms, long and short, I’ve helped train a number of them myself. I’d trust them far more than I trust a lot of chracters I see out in public who are in their thirties and even older. I’ve known women as young as fourteen who are mature and solid enough to marry and raise a family (and one who DID just that) and I know others in their forties nowhere near mature enoguh to marry, let alone be trusted to raise children, some not even mature enough to drive a car. Can’t judge everyone by the least stable amongst us.
