So why does Trump think it’s more important to have a UN ambassador?

He very well may not, now that he’s been apprised of New York’s games. Stefanik may have been approved by Congress, but she’s not the ambassador until Trump eplicitly appoints her. It’s perfectly reasonable for him to delay actually appointing her to the UN, leaving her in Congress and sending an interim ambassador to the UN, until New York decides to clean up its act.
