An Inconvenient Truth

The White areas of Chicago? Virtually violence free. [More]

And not just Chicago.

I’d say I hope this hasn’t offended anybody, but truth be known, if it does I hope they’re sputtering. Collectivist destroyers are not the ones who will fix things.

  1. The collectivist destroyers will totally “fix” things. The problems arise when we realize that their definition of the “problem” that needs to be “fixed” differs from ours.

We see violence plaguing mostly-black areas of large cities while mostly-white areas are safe, and we ask: What can be done to make the mostly-black areas less violent? They see the same problem, but seem to ask: What can be done to spread the violence more evenly?

It’s the same with so-called “over-representation” in prison populations. We look at that phenomenon and ask: How can we discourage criminal behavior among young black men? They look at it and ask: How can we ensure white offenders get longer sentences?

But that’s what happens when race is the primary lens through which they view the world. The mostly-black neighborhoods don’t need to be fixed; that’s racist to suggest such a thing! Instead, white neighborhoods just need to be more victimized, to “share the wealth.” (Seems to be a consistent theme with that crowd.)

  2. Afterthought: It’s also a inversion of the essential difference between socialism and capitalism.

Capitalism starts with the premise that wealth is created and essentially infinite, that how much a person gets depends on how hard they’re willing to work, and with a little bit of luck anyone can make BIG money, because everyone has or can make opportunities, and that wealth generation benefits everyone (“rising tide lifts all boats,” and such).

OTOH, socialism starts with the premise that wealth is finite — new wealth and new opportunities cannot be created — and therefore to give the poor a bigger share, the rich must have theirs reduced.

The “neighborhoods” starts with the same premises; collectivist destroyers seem to think there is a given amount of “violence” — it cannot simply be reduced — and to make one neighborhood safer, other neighborhoods must increase their share. Meanwhile, we’re over here trying to find solutions to reduce the overall violence, which will make ALL neighborhoods safer (“lowering tide,” maybe?).

  3. It’s even simpler than that. In each one of those violent inner city neighborhoods, 90% of the violence is committed by 10% of a class of professional criminals. Further, the cops and what passes for a criminal justice system know exactly who they are.

“Waiter, there’s a fly in my soup!”

This particular fly is the fact that while America’s hard core criminals are largely convicted felons and cannot legally vote, their families, friends, and associates largely can. That means there are politicians who see them as their constituency. Guess which party they vote for and you’re well on your way to putting your finger on the problem and a solution.

Get the Democrats to agree with putting that hard core 10% in prison for a very long time and your inner city crime drops by 90%.
