Just a thought: According to search engines, Italy handles its illegal/undocumented migrants similar to how the U.S. does — detention, repatriation, deportation — and under the current, much more conservative Prime Minister, they’ve really ramped up their border security and cracked down on illegal immigration and human trafficking.
Ergo, I imagine Kimmel doesn’t want to be caught trying to enter illegally and face those consequences, and has the money and connections to make sure he doesn’t have to.
But for the people trying to come here, he’s fine with showcasing them being caught, in the exact same ghoulish way gun-grabbers like to showcase dead children after every shooting.
