Fair Share?

NSSF Touts Bill Banning Unfair Gun Taxes [More]

Anyone care to name a fair one?

NSSF: Isn’t that the group that “celebrates firearm and ammunition manufacturers topping $17 billion in excise tax contributions to the Wildlife Restoration Trust Fund since its inception in 1937″?

I’m not a hunter. If I ever decide to, I’ll pay my way. Until then, why should I indirectly fund a socialist Fudd tax on the price of guns and ammo, especially when so many of them are out there undermining my right to keep and bear arms?

  1. Larry Keane says corporations pay the Pittman Robertson, not consumers.

Apparently Keane/NSSF missed econ 101, and that corporations never pay taxes. Instead they pass it on to their customers.

      1. Yes, I knew what you meant. But he said corporations “absorbed” it. I pointed out he’s a lobbyist and paid to say certain things. He called that a “personal attack” and blocked me.

  2. The idea of preserving hunting and fishing opportunities by buying up and protecting habitat is a good one. But doing it through mandatory taxes is not. A better idea is the model followed by organizations like Ducks Unlimited with voluntary support through membership and/or perhaps through “round up” programs like that run by NRA and MidwayUSA.

  3. Don’t forget that NSSF’s view of the Second is somewhat different than ours. They prioritize the part about sporting goods. That’s actually pretty common among folks from the Northeast part of the country. Funny how stuff changes in 250 years.

    1. True.
But it since they’re the lobbying arm for the industry, it pays to keep Uncle Sam, the biggest gun dealer in the world happy. So they are willing to compromise on 2A.

      1. An incident from my management days at TPC might serve to highlight the differences in the two approaches.

During a grievance hearing, a CWA shop steward told me that I needed to learn to compromise on my principles.

I told her she needed to learn that your principles are the things you do not ever compromise.
