Great Expectations

I’m a Texas school teacher. Do our leaders expect me to be a gunfighter also? [More]

Yes. By law, you’re a member of the Militia.

And it’s not out of line for your countrymen to expect you to be an American and a man.

  1. I’m not aware of any teachers being forced to carry.

And yes, teacher, you ARE expected to take reasonable precautions and actions to protect the children their parents have entrusted to you. I don’t get the impression you are going to lift a finger to actually participate in that responsibility.

This teacher impresses me as the one most likely to “out” a teacher who IS carrying.

  2. I once had a neighbor who was in the business of offering security advice to banks. He had previously been one of those armed contractors the Department of State sends around the world when the secretary wants to “disavow all knowledge.”

On one of his DoS trips, a Central American bank wanted to know what they could do to cut down on the gunfights they were having in their bank lobbies, customers being shot being bad for business and all that. His advice, which worked according to him, was to put the armed guards outside of the lobby so they controlled access without stray rounds flying around the customer areas.

In a similar fashion, I think that armed teachers should be on the list of steps to take, but not on the top of the list. Schools should have limited assess, with armed personnel (of some sort to be determined) at those access points. Armed teachers in the classrooms would be better than what many schools have today, but the last thing we need is teachers going all “Lee Paige” in our classrooms.

  3. This is the left’s usual propaganda tactic of false dichotomy — magically converting “removing prohibitions on teachers who WANT to carry” into “forcing teachers to carry.” To the left, everything that is not forbidden is mandatory.
