Holding Out for More

On Wednesday, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz went to the Senate floor to seek unanimous consent for his proposed school safety bill, but it was blocked. Senator Chris Murphy, Democrat of Connecticut, objected to the Cruz legislation and criticized him for not being serious. [More]

That means it doesn’t ban guns, so he’d rather more children be slaughtered until he gets a bill that does.

  1. Murphy appears to believe in Maslow’s Law of the Instrument – “If the only tool you have is a hammer, it is tempting to treat everything as if it were a nail”.

The only tool Murphy knows how to use is a gun ban, so other tools are of no use to him.

  2. nothing is more effective than law enforcement physically present there.”

I totally disagree. There is one thing that has been proven to work more effectively, and it costs the schools nothing. Cruz’ bill is a kneee jerk “official” idea that he is selling as a “solution”.Trouble is, it is easy enough to defeat in the real world.

Ohio’s Faster Saves LIves programme works well (NOT ONE incident involving firearms at any school where this plan is in use). Any perp up to no good would never know WHICH of the adult staff who have already been working at that school daily, often for years or decades, might be armed and skilled and mentally prepared to take decisive and effective action NOW and end the threat. No federal billions. No new corrupt beaurocracies. And no warning to the bad guys when they try and pull something.

Just think: if half of the teachers who got corrralled into that double room at the Uvalde school had been trained and prepared as this programme does, the punk kid never would have been able to take control of the classroom. First sight of him with his gun he’d have been neutralised. Maybe one dead teacher, but NO dead kids. And most likely no massive court costs to deal with the sick perp.
