- 18+ mons since & @JoeBiden / @JusticeDept have FAILED to implement @NSSF -supported provisions
- ATF is Decisively Indecisive on Implementing Bipartisan Safer Communities Act
- This is part of @NSSF ’s #FixNICS campaign to get disqualify records into NICS background check database so dangerous people can’t buy guns from dealers
That last bit goes to this:
“It has bipartisan support. There should be reporting of mental health issues. I don’t think there’s too much disagreement about that.”
So you know that they can’t be trusted without a custodian, and you know most criminals get their guns “illegally,” and this is your “solution”?
Way to read the room, Lar’. Every time I see NSSF bragging about licking jackboots, kapos and drivers come to mind.

One more time again.
The Second Amendment ain’t about duck hunting or sporting goods.
The NSSF, people who are focused on the shooting sports, don’t want to hear about any “core purpose” and for all their lip service won’t be any help in defending it.
Another “one more time again”:
Mentally-ill individuals are prone to commit violent crimes at about the same rate as mentally-healthy individuals: about 4%.
Put another way, about 96% of both mentally-ill and mentally-healthy people DON’T commit violent crimes.
Besides which, mental illness can be healed or rehabilitated, but if self-reporting entails automatic lifetime NICS disability, wouldn’t that serve as a DISincentive to seek help?
Hey, Larry: If a mentally-ill person is not violent and hasn’t committed any crime, if his/her only “offense” is a medical malady that is temporary and/or reparable, explain why he/she should be permanently included in NICS. Explain why you think some citizens deserve to have their rights revoked through no fault of their own.
We’re waiting….
(To be clear, if a person is ill enough to be hospitalized, violent/criminal or not, they probably shouldn’t own a firearm. But once they’re well enough to be released, normal “trusted without a custodian” rules should apply.)
My understanding is that there are provisions whereby one can have one’s name removed from NICS prohibited person lists but that Congress has consistently neglected/refused to fund them.
Probably a distinction without a difference since, without that funding, once you’re on the list you’re on it for keeps.
And if the left gets the “mental illness” authority to disarm us that they seek magically EVERY gun owner they don’t approve of will be declared “mentally ill”. It’s a tactic the USSR liked to use. Declare dissidents and opponents to be mentally ill and lock them up…they even had a slang term for the places, Psikhushkas.
