1. They get it from their dogs, silly.

   Now the question is where do the dogs get it from.

2. The author here is simply wrong. Monkeypox is spread by skin contact or secretions (including towels and bedding). Our patient zero was a gay man, so it has been mostly spread by long-contact sexual liaisons with other gay men, but any close contact or shared facilities can spread it. It can easily be spread via innocent means to a child sharing lodging with an infected person.
