Firearm Ownership in America by Year [More]
Household percentages were higher back in the day, but they were asleep at the switch so that infringements could sneak in.
A friend of mine sent me an American Rifleman from 1949, and there were plenty of great gun ads, and anyone could get one in the days of “Easy Access,” but not one word about the Second Amendment in the entire damn magazine.
OTOH, in 1949 there wasn’t seen to be a need for a virulent defense of something that wasn’t seen to be under attack.
I mean, it was under attack, but not out in the open like we see today.
AND….
1949 was only 15 years after an NRA president was a staunch defender of the NFA.
i think you’ll find tht pretty common for any issue of the magazine before the founding of the NRA-ILA. That marks the time when they started to take it seriously.
Deport 75,000,000 illegals and another 100,000,000 foreigners here on green cards and you can be certain “percentage of households owning firearms” would meet or exceed 1949 levels.
Good catch!
