Something could have been done, and is required by law, liike bike lights and a helmet, but the bike rider didn’t do any of it. Dragooning the rest of us into paying for flashing lights won’t change the reality that personal responsibility was abdicated, as sorry as we might feel for the kid who used a kid’s judgment.

But Janet’s not a kid. If her positon is “Something must be done,” it would help if she answered one simple question:
