  1. He had no prior criminal history, but failed an FBI background check? Something tells me we’re missing the rest of the story.

    If he failed the background check, wouldn’t that make him a prohibited person? And wouldn’t that be justification to arrest him and confiscate the rifle? But that would have required more work by the police.
