  1. In military science, there is the concept of a “fleet in being.”

Just the existence of a military force as a credible threat affects the thinking and posture of those in opposition.

For a modern example, consider the USA’s “nuclear triad” and doctrine of Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) which just by its existence has made its use unnecessary.

The American People are undoubtedly armed to the teeth. But do they possess the will and skill set to pose a credible threat to oppose any government move towards tyranny?

Data collected by Project Appleseed suggest that no, they are not. Those who might impose such a tyranny on the American people are well aware of that shortcoming. Remember that superior marksmanship allowed a Confederate force to defeat a much larger Federal force in one battle after another. The poor marksmanship of Federal troops was one of the things that led to the formation of the NRA by former Union officers. Marksmanship is something we need to work on.

    Get thee to an Appleseed!
