On this Bill of Rights Day, we proudly carry forth the bold vision of our Founding Fathers. We recommit to the timeless freedoms enshrined in the Bill of Rights, and we vow to always preserve, protect, and defend our God-given rights, our glorious American heritage, and our constitutional way of life.
Now what we’ve gotta do is convince him and his sycophant squad to reject those who call the idea of Heritage Americans “loony.”
Note carefully that the document does not say that our rights come from a Christian God either. Jefferson et. al. could have used the word God. And it would have been literally easier to do so: shorter word, less ink, less parchment, etc. But he apparently chose not to do so. And his choice survived the process of being edited by the Congress as a whole. Why do you suppose that was?
Because Jefferson, like many of the Founders, was only a Christian on the surface. In those days religious affiliation was tied more strongly to community affiliation and even standing in government than would seem main stream today. So while many of the founders acted like Christians, they were, in many cases, in fact Deists.
In short, the signers of the Declaration used the term “creator” and allowed the reader to interpret it in line with their own personal beliefs. Both approaches allow for a natural law establishing a right to life, a drive to defend that life, and a means to do so.
And there you have it, a creator endowed right to keep and bear arms.
