This reminds me of the reason that there was only one approved gun safety course for license applicants in the City of Worcester 30 years ago. Students never got to touch a gun or even a gun-like object for the entire class — much less fire one — and were afforded only a glimpse of the instructor’s own carry piece. However, the course was offered by the chief’s brother-in-law.
Good luck finding colonial or reconstruction era laws restricting what kind of sights one could use.
