Willing Slaves

“We are destroying these bikes,” Spitzer announced to cheers. “They’re going to be crushed!” In just over two hours, residents surrendered more than 1,000 e-bikes and e-motorcycles. [More]

Gun “buybacks” were just a warm-up.

Contemptible.

Imagine what else the state with its armed enforcers might demand under the right set of circumstances.

And Todd Spitzer’s a NRA A+ rated Republican, which is instructive on how they behave when the feel they can get away with it.

  1. Over the past thee decades, California has alienated and all but annihilated its sectors of manufacturing, financial services, aerospace, timber/logging, real estate/homebuilding, pharmaceuticals/distribution, chemicals, wholesale trade, and related engineering/construction services.

We should give them a pass for committing deliberate wholesale destruction — it’s the only thing they’re still good at.

  2. A few questions spring to mind:
    – Given California’s slew of onerous and incomprehensible “environmental protection” laws, what’s the plan for all the lithium-based batteries in those e-bikes and e-motorcycles?
    – Relatedly, what about the other heavy metals in the motors and other components?
    – Has an environmental impact study been done on the potential outcomes and hazards of crushing all these e-bikes and e-motorcycles — and their various components and parts?
    – Since the state has what can only be described as a “vendetta” against petroleum-powered anything and electric vehicles were touted as the solution, what changed to make destroying e-bikes and e-motorcycles something to be cheered?
    – Given the aforementioned “vendetta,” what is the proposal to make sure the people dependent on e-bikes and e-motorcycles can still get to their productive (i.e. tax-paying) jobs?

In short, what I’m seeing is a local government pushing a large pile of directly-contradictory agendas, and a bunch of people too stupid, too indoctrinated, or too well-paid (as in, “paid protesters”) to see the disconnects or ask relevant questions.
