Egads, there are guns, too! “Everyone is walking around with guns there,” one former Floridian told NBC. “I consider myself a conservative guy, but if you want to carry a gun you should be licensed, there should be some sort of process.” [More]
What kind of extremist must anyone who disagrees with him be? (Disregard that I checked out his Facebook and the guy’s basically an Israel First copsucker from New York.)
NBC News is suddenly obsessed with Florida…?

In the South Florida of my youth, (think 1950s), it was not uncommon to be in the check out area of a store or restaurant and see a sign on the register saying “We don’t give a damn how you did it in New York.”
He probably is what passes for a conservative where he came from: a Mitt Romney, Chris Christie, Olympia Snowe kind of conservative.
He would probably be happier if he went back where his neighbors were like him and left us gun totin’ Florida folks alone.
I know we would be.
“Upon further review … ”
Lord help me but I love that phrase.
“… there should be some sort of process.”
In fact, there was a process. The proposed “Constitution of the United States” was in deep trouble. The Federalists didn’t believe that the existing state level protections of basic human rights needed to be included in the new Constitution. The Anti-Federalists didn’t agree and refused to ratify the new government unless guarantees akin to Virginia’s 1776 “Declaration of Rights” were appended to the new constitution. Several of the new states held back to see what New York would do and it became clear that the New York ratifying convention was dominated by Anti-Federalists. The Federalists came to realize that if there were no Federal level guarantees added, there would be no United States of America.
So, because New York insisted upon the addition of what we call “The Bill of Rights”, including a Second Amendment that requires the government to keep their hands off of Floridians (and lots of others) who choose to walk about keeping and bearing arms, we get to do exactly that.
So there was a process. His state’s opinion won out. If he has a problem with the results, he should go home and bitch at his ancestors.
