That’s the narrative the media is going to run with all the way up to the primary. I can understand the restaurant backing out– most operate on such slim profit margins ait probably doesn’t take much to scare them. Nonetheless, they said a lot more than they had to trying to distance themselves.

I first ran across it in an April 3 hit piece in The Toldeo Blade (a failing rag that used to employ Homer Simpson’s dumber brother, a former ambassador calling for cordoned gun confiscation sweeps and imprisonment of defiers).

No surprise they did not even acknowledge my letter to the editor:

You don’t hate the DSM enough. Communist f_n’ bedwetters, all.

I’m not suprised that BFA ignored Vivek putting down Heritage Americans, either.

Lies of Commission and Omission

A recent news headline declared, “11,500 shootings occurred within 500 yards of US schools last year.” The obvious implication is that American school children are under daily fire on school campuses nationwide. But, as with most gun control narratives in national media written by reporters who mostly don’t understand the basics of firearms or criminal gun use, that narrative collapses under the slightest scrutiny. The first glaring red flag in this story is that Hearst Television Data Visualization Journalist Susie Webb and the WCVB Get the Facts Data Team built their agenda-driven narrative by relying on gun control advocacy site The Trace’s “School-Adjacent Shootings” dataset, which tracks Gun Violence Archive (GVA) incidents that fell within 500 yards of a K-12 school. Even that dataset warns that each row is a shooting-to-school match and must be deduplicated before anyone totals up the incidents, deaths or injuries. However, that was not done before Webb and WVTM’s story went live on several news outlets, on social media, on Hearst Television’s YouTube channel and was even—unsurprisingly—picked up by MSN. Josh Sugarmann smiles:

“The weapons’ menacing looks, coupled with the public’s confusion over fully automatic machine guns versus semi-automatic assault weapons—anything that looks like a machine gun is assumed to be a machine gun—can only increase the chance of public support for restrictions on these weapons.”

Gun Prohibitionists Using Pincer Strategy with Reports on U.S. Arms in Mexico

Fingers would be better pointed at Mexico’s pervasive corruption and tyrannical citizen disarmament edicts that have made a cartel black market both lucrative and inevitably bloody. [More]

The media pulling the same deceptions we saw before Operation Fast and Furious “Gunwalking” makes this déjà vu all over again.

Not Enough Chiefs

Let’s see, @5M in the U.S., 66% of those new immigrants after a 174% increase in 20 years… and India Today is a go-to mass influencer source for them.

No wonder they’re 83% against 2A.

And no wonder my challenge says anecdotes and isolated examples don’t measurably alter that.

You guys who disagree, you’d better step up those outreach efforts and start taking busloads to the range.

Point/Counterpoint

Armed with military-grade weapons smuggled from the U.S., the 50-man force is one of dozens of “autodefensa,” or “self-defense,” groups that have emerged over the past decade in Mexico to fight increasingly sophisticated cartels in areas far out of the reach of security forces. [More]

Which FFL are they getting them from?

American guns fueling Mexican violence, so we need to curtail rights here? This looks like just what the media narrative was before all hell broke loose.

Worn Out His Welcome

Cameron Kasky… received a brutal but epic SMACKDOWN as he pathetically attempted to censor Scott Jennings [and] insured that he will NEVER again be invited to appear on CNN… [Watch]

Point of order– I’m not aware of any evidence that he is “David Hogg’s ex-boyfriend,” and suspect a sarcasm fail. Not sticking with what can be documented undermines the presenter’s credibility and redirects attention from what can be proven.

Driven to Despair

But when asked for their thoughts on safety measures, cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer readers suggested that arming drivers wouldn’t matter. “It seems some people who own guns must get trigger happy,” another wrote. “If drivers are shot indiscriminately being armed won’t help.” [More]

Kinda explains why they get their “news” from the Plain Dealer

But I will cede one point: You put your back to an assailant to impede turning around and returning fire and you’re definitely going to be at a disadvantage. So the title premise is right: It’s just not worth it.

Not that Johnny Cabs will be an improvement…
