Yeah, well I just got a tip that Virginia’s VCheck system is down, and had that confirmed by calling an FFL– and he didn’t know why and hadn’t received information.

Nothing on VCDL Alerts yet…

So I tried calling both Virginia State Police Firearms Transaction Center Help Desk numbers [(804) 674-2292 or (804) 674-2788] and both aren’t working.

My guess is this is the culprit:

#VSP is steadily making progress w/ongoing restoration efforts of several data systems. As of 11 AM 1/6/23, access to Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) restored for #Virginia law enforcement queries.

I tweeted a question to them and will update this if I hear back.

The VSP Information Technology Division’s application and engineering teams worked through the night and are now focused on reinstating VCIN-affiliated systems, to include the Computerized Criminal History (CCH) and the Virginia Firearms Transaction V-Check system. [More]

As stated in our release – the Virginia Firearms Transaction V-Check system is one of the programs experiencing an outage. Firearm purchases are not being denied, but delayed. Reconnecting the V-Check system is the priority of the ongoing restoration process.

All I can tell you is the original tip received by CA over at Western Rifle Shooters Association that set me off looking into this said:

It looks like I didn’t put a link on the last update and there is nothing I can do about it now because I am on the road.

So many NICS checks they are breaking down the system!? This is GREAT! Except that they are holding up sales.

I maintained a WogRoll at the old Blogspot place predicated on reciprocity with like-minded RKBA-related sites. Truth be told, I never got much in terms of site visits to make the effort worth the time. I may try to do something again in the future, but for now, my hands are more than full trying to get a new site started.

So named from a comment by DEA agent Lee Paige, who told a classroom full of kids he was “the only one” qualified to be armed and then promptly shot himself in the foot, the purpose of this feature has never been to bash cops. The only reason I do this is to amass a credible body of evidence to present when those who would deny our right to keep and bear arms use the argument that only government enforcers are professional and trained enough to do so safely and responsibly. And it’s also used to illustrate when those of official status, rank, or privilege, both in law enforcement and in some other government position, get special breaks not available to we commoners, particularly (but not exclusively) when they’re involved in gun-related incidents.
