I’m thinking a war is possible, and maybe even likely. But you can never depend on some fool not starting one.
Gen. Gage didn’t think he was starting a war either. Look how that turned out.
If so, people like Garrett are 85% of the way to the target list. Is he thinking about that?
“85 percent close to an American civil war” appears to be a wonderful hook to entice you to buy his book.
Using Google, I searched “How close is the U.S. to civil war”. In the few pages of results that I looked at, I see a few instances that give estimates of the percentage of people that think we are close or not, but none that give an estimate of quantification of closeness. So, I assert that we are no closer than 50% close (flip a coin as to whether we are close or not) and request that I be proven wrong or right.
One article cited from that search noted that even when Confederate batteries initiated firing on Federal-held Fort Sumter in Charleston, South Carolina, many were unsure whether it was civil war.
