Several years ago so, a gray fox later determined by lab test to be rabid attacked the kid whose grandparents lived across the street from us while he played in our side yard with my sons. After contacting 911, I was scrubbing the kid’s bite wounds in the grandparents’ kitchen sink when we heard at least six gunshots in rapid succession. After the paramedics left with the kid on a transport to the ER, I asked one of the several responding deputies about the gunshots. One lucky deputy became the focus of the fox’s attention. When the fox charged the deputy, the deputy fired as many shots of .45 ACP JHP from his Glock duty pistol as it took to halt the charge. The deputy was very distressed that it took so many shots, but it appears that he did not miss. The distances of the shots were approximately twenty feet to less than ten feet.
