  1. I’ve often wondered what motivated the first person to try licking a toad to see if they could get high as a result.

    1. We have those toads here. Pets and livestock lick them, and if they don’t lick enough to poison themselves (which isn’t hard) they clearly act pretty high for a period, so the deduction is obvious.

      1. Our Boxer picked up a Bufo Marinus briefly before we made him spit it out. They were common in the Miami, FL area at the time. The dog went into distress frantically trying to rub something out of his mouth. We knew to stick a garden hose in his mouth to flush out as much of the toxin as possible. He survived (most dogs don’t) but I don’t recall asking him if he got a buzz.
