Damned If We Do, Damned If We Don’t

Who thinks Republicans, mindful of what just happened yesterday and what that means for them personally, will unify and “pass nationwide carry & repeal federal gun control” if they do this?

  1. I want some of whatever GoA is smoking.
Re filibuster; just require the filibusterers to stand and speak to their purposes until they convince the body of the goodness of their points or fall unconscious from the podium after hours/days of super exertion. And btw, no replacements allowed, there’s no bullpen in politics.

  2. I will always vote for keeping the filibuster.
Citizens are less in danger when government does nothing than they are when government does… well, pretty much anything.

  3. The House of Representatives allowed filibuster until 1842. They got rid of it because it kept them from getting anything done.

The Senate sometimes considers ending their filibuster because it likewise keeps them from getting anything done.

In 2039 we’ll reach the 250th year since the ratification of the Constitution of the United States. It seems to reason that most if not all of the things that Congress could do while staying within the framework of the Constitution have already been done. Many if not most of the things the Federal government is involved with are things the Federal government has no business tinkering with. Going forward, that situation is likely to only get worse.

For those reasons I’m in favor of the filibuster AND am in no hurry for the current shutdown to end.

Take a break, Speaker Johnson. Don’t be all in a rush to reopen on our account.
