Doing It Right for Less?

Lowe’s rehires woman who was assaulted, suffered black eye while trying to stop alleged shoplifters [More]

Looks like customer outrage trumped cowardly corporate weasels — this time…

The thing about this — and I know these things because I used to manage all policies and procedures in defense contracting and medical practice management industries — is it establishes a precedent, and if they fire any other employee under similar circumstances and don’t offer the job back they’re setting themselves up for a discrimination lawsuit.

  1. As I once told a manager at TPC (*), “If you’d just stop being such an a$$hole on company time, you wouldn’t have to spend so much of your time apologizing to your direct reports.” He didn’t. The management at Lowe’s won’t either.

    * The name has been changed to protect the oh so very guilty. TPC is a made up acronym used in “The President’s Analyst” to avoid getting their pants sued off by the real company.

  2. I like to think they fired her to comply with the letter of their insurers’ regulations, then hired her back to jam a finger in their eye.
