  1. Before the birth of our first, we took a required prepared parenthood class at the hospital. We were introduced to “Lamaze Breathing”. We practiced a lot and got quite good at it. When we were checking out of the hospital with our new baby, we told the class instructor that the breathing seemed not to do anything. she said “We know, but it did give you something to do that made you feel like you were doing something to contribute to the process.”

    Q: So what do the following have in common?

    1. Lamaze breathing
    2. Re-useable grocery bags
    3. N95 masks

    A: They’re all a distraction that gives folks the feeling that they’re somehow contributing.
