They refer to the assault weapons ban that didn’t ban any assault weapons. Throughout the entire 10 year period when the “ban” was in effect. AR15s and AK47s without a flash hider and/or bayonet lug were still produced and available for sale. But these “post ban” models were no longer “assault weapons.” Nor were any AR15’s or AK47s already in civilian hands or in the supply chain affected in any way.
No one waved a magic wand and made anything disappear. Seriously, what can you expect but “misstatements of facts” from a government that announces a reduction in an expected increase and calls it a cut.
