  1. Pretty much what’s been noodling around in my mind ever since the incident.

How DID a kid on a minimum wage job, living with his grandparents (one of whom is a felon), manage to drop over $4k on guns, accessories, and ammunition?

One proposed answer is that these days, too many banks will offer a high-interest credit card with up to a $25k limit to anyone who can show two consecutive pay stubs. If the kid is planning on not surviving, what does he care if he runs up the card and destroys his FICO score?

But even that doesn’t pass the smell test, given that enough banks and credit companies monitor purchases and will “red flag” anything suspicious (like, say, an 18-year-old kid buying two expensive semi-auto rifles and a pile of ammunition) with authorities.

“Hilux Test.” Got a nice ring to it.
