  1. “… something we can’t have …”

We can have them, we just have to break their law to do so.

Americans typically sort themselves out into three groups when it comes to the law..

One group obeys the a law because they believe its the right thing to do.

Anther group obeys the law because they’re afraid of the punishment if caught.

A final group just says catch me if you can and breaks the law if and when it suits them.

And we’ve been doing it since before we were called Americans.

Pretty much all of us who were driving in the days of the 55mph speed limits ignored them when it suited us.

Anyone who knows anyone from Kentucky or West Virginia can get “moonshine” whiskey with little or no trouble. You just have to know someone who knows someone. But you will get your illegal whisky if you want it bad enough. That same someone can likely get you a reasonable quantity of illegal marijuana if you asked for it. You can get it if you want it bad enough to ask the right people.

The TL;DR version is that no law has ever stopped 100% of Americans from getting something they want if they want it bad enough. NFA34 is no exception.

Meanwhile, we elect politicians who ignore history and observable reality and pass laws thinking doing so will stop certain behaviors.

Is it just me, or do we just need to elect smarter politicians?

Quoting from “I’m Free” from The Who’s rock opera “Tommy”

“If I told you what it takes
    To reach the highest high
You’d laugh and say nothing’s that simple
But you’ve been told many times before
    Messiahs pointed to the door
And no one had the guts to leave the temple!”

    And speaking of “messiahs”:

“I will not comply!” — Mike Vanderboegh.

He pointed the way. How many of us do you recon have the guts to follow?
