New Mexico Legislative Alert

There is just a day and a half left in the 2025 Legislative Session. SB318 [ gun store liability bill] is being pushed very hard as it is seen as the best chance to pass a major gun-control law this session… It is possible [SB279, the gas-operated firearm and magazine ban] could be pulled from the committee and sent straight to the floor if it is going to have a vote by the full Senate in the closing hours of the 2025 Legislative Session.[More]

And this was written yesterday.

I’ll come back and update this post if I learn more today.

The Final Stretch

As we enter the final days of the 2025 Legislative Session, the governor is making a frantic effort to push her gun-control agenda across the line. Two bills have been scheduled for Thursday, 3/20. SB279, the gas-operated firearm and magazine ban [and] SB318, the gun store liability bill that could put every gun store in NM out of business by enabling frivolous lawsuits against firearms industry companies… [More]

That’s today.

Sprint to the End

After a floor vote on SB318 was delayed last Thursday, the bill was brought up again on the Senate Floor tonight for a vote and was passed 21 to 18. Numerous gun stores from around the state have told us the bill could put every gun store in New Mexico out of business. [More]

A gas-operated firearm and magazine ban, red-flag gun confiscation, and concealed carry infringements are still in the pipeline. The session ends Saturday, so Democrats are looking to do as much damage as they can.

Like Nobody’s Business

The bill could put every gun store in New Mexico out of business by amending New Mexico’s Unfair Trade Practices Act to make it easier to sue a gun store than any other type of business and imposing harsher penalties on gun stores than any other type of business. [More]

And when they pass that, Democrats have plenty more waiting in the wings.

New Mexico Legislative Updates

Three new gun control bills have been filed, including one of the bills we have been anticipating. First, SB279, a ban on the sale or transfer of semiautomatic rifles was filed today… Second, SB244, a ban on minors possessing firearms with exemptions was filed… HB12, the expansion of New Mexico’s “red-flag” gun confiscation law will be heard in the House Judiciary Committee. [More]

And naturally, Democrats didn’t want to talk about permitless carry…

New Mexico Legislative Update

On Thursday, 1/30, the House Consumer and Public Affairs Committee passed HB38 on a party-line vote. The bill would make it a felony to own a “weapon conversion device”… On Wednesday 2/5, HB12, the expansion of New Mexico’s “red-flag” gun confiscation law will be heard in the House Judiciary Committee… Additionally, two bills we support are being heard this week as well… permitless carry state [and] a tax credit for purchasing a qualifying gun safe. [More]

The Avalanche Starting Zone

Today, the 2025 New Mexico Legislative Session officially started. This year is a 60-day session that will allow a large number of bills to be heard. Only a few of the bills we are expecting this year have been filed so far – below is a list of the key bills we are watching. [More]

Red flags, “weapon conversion devices,” juvenile records, and more on the way… and yeah, “consitutional carry,” but there’s this

Your Terms of Surrender

House Bill 12 by Rep. Joy Garratt (D-ABQ) allows law enforcement officers to bypass the need for a “reporting party” and go straight to filing a petition for an extreme risk protective order based on information collected by the officers — allowing them to be the sole source and mechanism by which an order is issued. [More]

And there’s another that makes owning attachments a felony.

Obey or be destroyed.
