Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is kicking off the new school year with safety as its top priority and a new layer of security. The school district announced that it will begin implementing its weapon detection screening program at school board regular business meetings. [More]
Because nothing says “safe spaces” like a “gun-free zone”!
And if an armed maniac decides to go through the detectors guns blazing…?
No comment from the Lairds…?

My local city council high hats require us to happy dance through the magnetometers…ok to carry in city hall, just not at council.
Can’t imagine wasting even a spitball on any one of them.
As to school board doings, haven’t attended yet but expect that every district facility is a special exclusion zone as far as personal defense goes.
One local church I am familiar with (Archdiocese of San Antonio) has now posted 30.05, 30.06 and 30.07 signage barring scores of competent non-licensees and licensees possession of effective tools at service. Maybe the Bishop’s cousin runs a security company, wink, nod.
Fewer reasons to conduct commerce or social interactions in public places, but expect that’s the core intent of the powers that be.
…it will begin implementing its weapon detection screening program at school board regular business meetings.
Because nothing says “We prioritize student safety” like screening for weapons at off-campus, adult-only meetings!
What, did you think they were going to spend the money on protecting the kids?
(And yes, I fully understand that schools being victim-disarmament zones is part of the problem. But it’s important to clarify that this district made “safety” its “top priority,” but not in the places the kids routinely go.)
