Can’t Make This Stuff Up: Disney Axes “Bambi” Hunting Scene [More]

Probably because Fudds can’t have guns

Besides, Disney has other “values” it wants to impart.

  1. And replaces that scene with … what, exactly?

Bambi needs to lose his mother; it’s a driving plot point. Without it, there’s no character development or hardship for the titular protagonist to experience. So how will the geniuses at Disney make that happen?

(Plus, I remember watching the movie at home — the original 1942 release was WAY before my time — and even as a kid I didn’t interpret that scene as the evil caricature of hunters that Disney intended. Instead, I saw the irresponsibility of poaching; responsible hunters take the bucks, to ensure continued health of deer herds. Nobody but a poacher kills a doe unless the deer are severely overpopulating. If a kid in the 80s can understand that, what does it say that Disney execs can’t?)

  2. Can’t get too excited over Disney’s SJW department axing a scene here or there when they once axed an entire “Oscar” winning movie: “Song of the South.” (Best Original Song – 1947)

The movie was pulled because it didn’t show an actual portrayal of life on a post Civil War plantation. As if Hollywierd has ever made any money on actual portrayals of anything. Don’t bother trying to buy a copy at your local Disney store.

Fortunately, those SJW folks don’t have the last word on the subject. A fan of the movie has put his own “sweat equity” into a “restored” version that through modern tech is far better than Walt was able to watch back in the 1940’s. He released it just last September on the internet archive.

Tell Disney to pound salt. Download a copy. Spread the word. “Song of the South” shall rise again!

    Zippety-do-dah, Folks!
