Notice this always seems to happen in Democrat areas with lots of minority leadership?

  1. When one redefines “racism” to include only oppression of “People of Color” by the white race, one commits a sin against science of the first magnitude.

Firstly, to get to that position, one must aggressively prune one’s dataset to deliberately remove such examples as majority Japanese discrimination against Northern Japan’s Ainu minority. One must also ignore the majority Finnish Suomi discrimination against their neighbors, the Saami, both of which tend to be fair skinned, blue eyed, blondes. Moreover, one must also ignore the discrimination of the Han Chinese against all other ethnic groups that once existed in China, many of which are now extinct. That’s discrimination taken to a genocidal level. Humanity’s problem is much deeper than Reggie Jackson’s cry of racism. But if one prunes the dataset to the extent that Jackson does, one loses that bigger picture.

Humanity’s deeper problem is one of tribalism:fear and or hatred of those in another group. And there don’t seem to be any limits on how trivial the differences that set the “other” group apart from our own before the tribalism kicks in. Just ask the Saami.

An interesting take on the subject is here:

Jane Goodall wanted to dig up the fossil remains of our most distant ancestors with Louis Leakey but instead he sent her to Gombi to study the societies set up by our closest living cousins. The biggest heartbreak of her career was watching her beloved chimpanzees divide into two tribes and make war on each other.

If the Chimps of Gombe suffer from tribalism, chances are quite good it is in their DNA and ours.

Mr. Jackson can thrash about as much as he wants, he’s not going to paddle himself out of the gene pool and he will remain as racist as a klansman until the day he dies. The most he can hope for is to be able to suppress his baser instincts, as must we all.

Paraphrasing the scorpion in the parable, “It’s in our nature.”
