He is not a police choef, but a sheriff, which means that a lot of local degenerates actually voted for him.
Unfortunately that means he’s also not so easily fired. The deputies and county staff can keep him from serving for a while, but unless there’s some policy or law saying he’s unfit for duty, it’s ultimately up to the voters to replace him. (It’s still up to the voters to approve his replacement even with such a policy or law; any temporary stand-in is just that — temporary.)
That said, credit where credit is due: The deputies arrested their boss for his crimes rather than hide behind the “Thin Blue Line” and “chain of authority.” (Or being that it’s a sheriff’s office, not a police department, is it a “Thin Khaki Line” instead?) That’s something you don’t see every day.
There might have been a time when a bozo like this would not only not remain on the payroll, apparently still holding a badge and gun, but would simply have disappeared one night never to be seen again. Even Texas has abandoned those simpler days.
Back the blue! Or the green, or the brown, or whatever.
