Firearms News will be exploring where these contenders stand on the Second Amendment, in both a separate analysis documenting actions, positions, and statements, and via a questionnaire, the subject of this article, designed to produce unequivocal answers. [More]
Finding out who shines us on, who sends us boilerplate, and who is not afraid to lead on the Second Amendment, could be useful to know for the primaries.
Q: Will Republican Presidential Candidates Ever Give Clear 2A Rights Answers?
A: No! *
* “It’s tough to make predictions, especially about the future.” ― Yogi Berra
Most politicians believe the propaganda that American are generally against free, un-infringed firearm ownership. This is because of decades of programing from pop culture and socialists plus no education about civics, the Constitution and the history behind the right of self-defense.
These ideals need to be mandated in K-12 public education as well as higher education. Only then will the common American begin to understand why there is a 2nd Amendment.
Even Trump, who is presumably a firm 2A supporter, has made egregious errors like the ‘Bump Stock’ ban. He fails to see that those who are against the 2nd Amendment believe that government workers should always have some advantage in fire-power over the people.
I have a tee shirt that reads “Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms should be the name of a convenience store. Not a government agency.” That being said, there should still be age and background checks before a purchase.
Oh bullshit. Come in here with 20 year old tired cliches and repeating stuff we’ve covered ad nauseam and then advocate for prior restraints…
What section of the Constitution authorizes those again…?
As we all know, or should, the Second Amendment does not authorize ANY gun control laws whatsoever. Rather, it recognizes a citizen’s right to keep an bear the arms of his/her choosing, in the manner of his/her choosing, and in the places of his/her choosing and the to top it off it forbids government from infringing on that right.
And, no, contrary to what Sleepy, Creepy, Joe may have fantasized, it did not forbid citizens from owning their own personal cannon. Joe has managed the unthinkable feat of earning repeat “4 Pinnochio” awards from the anti-gun “Washington Post” for that one.
Congress once adopted a rule that said proposed legislation must include a section identifying the specific text in the Constitution that gave the power to regulate in the specific area covered by the proposed law.
They they promptly ignored their rule just as they ignore PayGo and so many other common sense procedures that would go far towards producing better government.
Tossing kibbles & bits to the easily led rubes to secure more time at the trough…that passes for informed voting in this ‘republic’.
When Ron Desantis ran for Congress, I emailed him and asked if he supported The Second Amendment, and he actually called me to insure me he does.
As far as future 2A rights answers it is my opinion that he is the closest we will get to full support of 2A. The others all seem to be “I support the Second Amendment, but”
