Ghost guns are:
1. Guns made by an individual as opposed to a company.
2. Guns that have had their serial numbers removed or defaced.
3. Guns made overseas or in the US pre 1968 which never had a serial number.
4. Guns that for one reason or another cannot be traced to their current legal owner.
5. Some combination of 1 – 4 above.
In reality, a ghost gun, like an assault weapon, is what ever the person using the term wants it to be. One recent credible estimate I’ve seen said that #4 above would classify 80% of the world’s stock of firearms as ghost guns.
